Faith

April 29th, 2008

Faith is a strange thing. It means believing in something without having any proof. For example, I have not flown around the earth myself, all I have to let me know that the world is round is what I have been told by others, I have not seen proof, but I have faith that it is round.

Most people think of faith as relating to a religion, which it is, but I think that it is more a part of a description of what a religion is, rather than being interchangable with the word ‘religion’. People have no, or little, proof that what they believe is true, but there is something that tells them it is true. Religion is a type of faith. Some people say that the proof of their religion is everywhere, in trees, in animals, in the way the world works for example, others find proof in other ways. If people think or know that they have proof, does that mean that their religion is no longer a faith? Does that make them like scientists, working to find further facts that follow what they already know to be true, and to expand their knowledge?

The faith, or religion, that I have, is more like a knowledge or understanding than a faith. It is like I have always known that God exists, and that he had a son, Jesus, who walked this earth. So, I have no reason to doubt this. To me it seems like maybe a genetic knowledge, as if it has been passed down many generations, and, if we are listening, we can hear or feel the faith of our ancestors. Maybe religion has been passed down genetically from a mitochondrial Eve or a y-chromosomal Adam, and due to different interpretations and how the interpretation fitted into different cultures is what has led to the founding of the major religions.

That is why I find the question that is often asked after atrocious happenings “Did it make you doubt your faith?” a strange question, as it is not something that I am able to doubt, for I know it, and a knowledge cannot be doubted.

Hope that that made sense.

Found it

As some of you might have noticed the site has been down for a while. This is because I lost my domain name!

I have now changed the company who is looking after my name for me so it should all be working for another 2 years.

Snow and singing exam

April 7th, 2008

Yesterday I woke up to see 4 or 5 inches of snow covering the ground. First snow I have seen for ages and it is in April!

I also had a singing exam yesterday. It went fine except that I had the CD player with the backing tracks too loud, so had to sing loud, so I think that I went a bit out of tune. Oh well, fingers crossed. I should get the results in a few weeks.

Dani’s fish currently have fungal infections. The electricity meter ran out of money so the filter was of for about 24 hours, there was a bacteria/fungal bloom in the tank and the water went all whiteand cloudy. They have been having daily water changes until the water clears. I cleaned out the filter yesterday, and replaced the filter pad and there was white slimy stuff growing inside the filter which looks like what is growing on the fish, so that got all cleaned out. Hopefully it will start getting better soon.

A new look

April 5th, 2008

If you come to my blog (or my website) and it looks a bit messy and all over the place, it is because I am currently redesigning everything.

At the moment the tree outside my bedroom window is covered with big white flowers bigger than my hand, my fish are doing fine.

Have just finished one of my modules, so I only have four left this semester.

I have got my placement sorted out for next year, I will be working at HP in Bristol from July ‘08 to July ‘09.

I have still got loads of coursework and other work to do, and I have a singing exam tomorrow! Scary!
